As a high school student who's higher ed-bound, you probably spend a good amount of your time right now thinking about which colleges you should apply to. It's no secret that there are a lot of truly great colleges out there, but what will ensure your happiness over the next four years is distinguishing which ones—out of all the ones you're thinking about—are right for you. Let us help!
We thought we'd take a quick break from talking about what our admissions team wants to see on your application and in your interview, and instead tell you a little about the kinds of students we look for; the types of people who enroll and love it here, year after year. Do any of these describe you? Take a look.
Siena College is right for students who...
...are kind. Sounds simple, but it'd be very hard to find someone who didn't fall in love with how welcoming our campus felt on their first tour. People here like to say "You know you go to Siena when you hold the door open for someone who is miles away." And it's true! Siena students are just that: nice. They're well-mannered, open-minded and nice to everyone. We're a tight-knit community; kindness is really important to us.
...want to learn more. "More" is the key word here. With nearly 1,200 program combinations to explore in all kinds of fields, 20 innovative centers and institutes where hands-on learning is taken to new heights and a well-connected faculty who brings out the best in their students, Siena is the perfect place to discover new passions, take on research projects and snag coveted internships. If you want to learn more about anything, this is your place. And that includes if you want to learn more about yourself, which brings me to my next one...
...want to find themselves. We mean it when we say Siena prepares students not just for a rewarding career, but for a fulfilling life, too. In a recent article in our local newspaper, our new president Brother Ed Coughlin put it best: "So much of the expectations in higher education today are all around skills and knowledge and career and job. None of them really take into consideration the whole person. We do." Part of how we help students build their characters and find themselves is through our Catholic Franciscan tradition, which teaches students about values, faith, concern for social justice and more. (But that doesn't mean you have to be Catholic to go here! Read the rest of that article for more on that!)
...are ready to make a difference. Siena is big on empowering students to have an impact on their communities and the world around us. It's one of our biggest differentiating factors: in addition to stellar academics, we provide a lot of opportunities to get involved and give back. And our students keep contributing to society long after they've graduated. If that's something that is important to you, or you'd like to be that kind of person, you'll love it here.
What do you think? Sound like a place you should be? Our team is ready to hear from you! Visit us soon, or go ahead and start your application. We can't wait to meet you.
